Apps of the Week

“Apps of the Week” is a quick post by several of our editors that will go over some of our favorite iPhone/iPod Touch applications that we are currently using. They may not necessarily be brand-new the week we discuss them, but at the rate apps get updated, updated features may be new to our readers. Here’s some of our current favorites, and be sure to check back each week for newest lists.

From our editors:

NBA League Pass is probably one of my favorite app on the iPhone. You can watch live NBA action all season long whenever and where ever you are over WiFi or 3G network. Browse scores and check status of other games all while watching one live game. If you missed a game, you can watch full game replays from around the league for up to 48 hours. You can look up schedule for your favorite team, and set reminders. You can also watch all highlights for recent games.

CardStar is one probably one of the few applications that will not only save you some money, but also save you some room in your pocket.  CardStar allows you to carry  your reward cards for various stores on your iPod or iPhone.  No need to carry them in your wallet or on your key ring ever again.  You simply select the store for the card, then type in the customer number.  When you’re all done, you end up with a nice scannable bar code, the same one on the those reward cards.  And to put the icing on the cake, its completely free.  But, that isn’t all folks, in fact according to CardStar’s website there is an android and BlackBerry version coming soon.

Siri(iPhone Only) is a personal assistant, on your phone, and best of all, it’s free. It uses speech-recognition software to assistant in your everyday needs. Just ask it a question like, “What events are going on at Madison Square Garden?” and you’ll get the information you requested. Siri can use the GPS feature on the iPhone to answer requests based on your current position, like “Where can I find take-out sushi?” to find you the nearest take-out sushi restaurants. Siri can create reservations, purchase tickets, and even act as a simple task reminder. The features are endless and there are tons of examples listed in the application, so give it a try.
